Hello, future Nova here to say that I am striking the information presented in this page from canon. This page, along with the majority of Chapter 1, was written when the comic aimed to have a much more cartoonish and lighthearted tone, but much has changed in between now and then.
Here's the new canon: Pokémon dying in battle has nothing to do with the mist that spread throughout the regions. Battling is a natural part of a Pokémon's life, trainer or wild, and death is a natural part of battling. While there are many measures and restrictions designed to prevent casualties in trainer battles, trainers must understand the risk of death in battling.
Basically, pretend that in this page, Elm is simply reminding Ethan and Silver of the risk of Pokémon dying in battle.
S-so the joke was that Silver's neck shouldn't be able to turn that much but I learned mid-way through drawing this page that I really don't know how to draw humans.
Team:
Hera - Bagon - Lvl. 8 - Belly Drum, Rest, Dragon Claw, Role Play - Mold Breaker

Ethan, Silver, Professor Elm, Pokémon © Nintendo

OOOOOO, it's super plausible that since the mist switched random pokemon around (even those in their pokeballs) that it would also affect their energy/data/ however you choose to explain what pokemon are made of down the line. I like it. 👀
Great job coming up with an in universe explanation for why this is happening! Looking forward to learning more about this mysterious mist.
